Our Mission: to encourage and promote oral health professionals to bring dental care and oral health to remote villages in the mountains of Nepal.
Himalayan Dental is a small volunteer organisation which serves the remote villages of Junbesi (Solukhumbu, Everest region) and Ghandruk (Annapurna region) and their surrounding valleys in Himalayan Nepal.
My wife Helen and I established these clinics in 2012 to provide dental care and education to people who have no access to dental treatment. Both clinics are in health centres developed by the villagers with a small amount of government support. We have equipped the clinics as “packaway” clinics with simple portable equipment which we can also transport to other venues if necessary.
I am John Niven, with over 40 years’ experience, now semi-retired. I qualified in London, moved to Australia in 1973. I have been a principal dentist in 2 large practices, Melbourne until 1996 and the Northern Rivers until 2010.
